HIQup
2026, Samantha Cole
A intelligent trip planning app that uses a simple chat interface to ensure nothing is missed.
The Objective
Through my own experience, I identified a need for a trip planning app that would make remembering everything simple. I decided to try out Claude Code's capabilities to design and launch an app of my own. Note: at the time of this writing, as I want to ensure that I have covered my bases legally, I have not yet published HIQup publicly, but I hope to do so in the next few weeks!
The Process
I leveraged my experience with writing product requirements, identifying my own needs and those of a reasonable user, along with concerns about security.
Requirements Summary:
HIQup should save family profiles based on information within the chatbot discussions locally, with the option to create an account and save a cloud-based instance.
HIQup should identify and tag family (or travel party) members based on conversation insights to help clarify packing needs. For example, a trip for a family beach vacation will have different requirements from an out-of-town dance competition. HIQup will remember who is the dancer, soccer player, etc., and remember that activity’s packing list for relevant trips.
The app should create pet profiles and ensure that reminders are generated for pet care, whether those pets need their own packing lists, or new vaccine records for boarding.
Some families care for others who may not be traveling, such as an elderly parent or neighbor, and any preparations for care should be included in preparation lists even if the person is not traveling.
There is a default profile for “home,” to help manage security setting reminders, plant watering schedules, or mail hold scheduling.
For families with children, there is a special “stuffie reminder” so that security items are not left behind for adventures away from home.
The Solution
Current state (7/2026), HIQup collects information via chat, and, in minutes, outputs:
A packing list, both printable and interactive within the app, broken down by family member/traveler, along with a shared/general list for shared items
A task list, which includes actionable items, like pet boarding confirmations and laundry preparation
A pre-departure list for last minute items, such as updating security or smart home and thermostat settings
HIQup is being tested currently, and once cleared for launch, it will be available for iOS and Android.
